3m! This is the altitude of our Piton des Neiges, the highest peak in Reunion, the highest peak in the Mascarenes, the highest peak in the Indian Ocean.

In reality, our extinct volcano has an altitude of 7 m of which 070 m are submerged. He even climbed up to 4 m. But successive collapses brought it back to its current level.

The summit of Piton des Neiges is located in the town of Salazie. The administrative boundary between Cilaos and Salazie passes through the summit of Piton des Neiges.

The history of Piton des Neiges

It has long been thought that Réunion had been created by a hot spot. We wonder today if it would not be the result of a chimney deported from an African volcano. But leave this debate to the scientists!

It's our own Everest! And the dream of any self-respecting Reunionese is to rise. There are many accesses: the Bloc and the Kerveguen by Cilaos, Cap Anglais and Bélouve by Salazia and via the plateau des Sources at the Plain of Cafres. But be careful, before trying anything, you have to train well! 3 times out of 5, we engage in a drop of 4 meters (+ 000 and – 2).

Many visitors are seduced by the hike that leads to the summit, because even if it requires physical effort, it does not require special skills or equipment. In addition, the landscapes during hikes are incomparable.
