History of Pas de Bellecombe Jacob

The particularity of this place is that Bellecombe had just financed the 1768 expedition. His name was given by his friends Joseph HUBERT and Honoré DE CREMONT when he himself was not even present. And for centuries, the world has known the Pas de Bellecombe.

Until in 2019, the municipality of Sainte-rose takes an interest in the question and realizes that the real "discoverer" is the slave JACOB, and decides to attach his name to that of Bellecombe to pay homage to him. History has been re-written!

Not

Let's come to this Pas precisely: it is a passage in the Fouqué enclosure which allows you to descend into the caldera of the volcano.

Today it is above all the starting point of the path used by hikers wishing to reach the summit of the Dolomieu.
This point is essential! never, we have the impression of walking on a volcano as much as here!
