Also called Pandanus Utilis, vacoa is a plant that grows almost everywhere on the island, but more particularly on the Eastern coast and the Wild South. Known both for its culinary aspect (salad, donut, jam, etc.) and for its artisanal aspect (basket, hat, etc.), the vacoa is a complete shrub. These dried leaves constitute the raw material for the production of basketry. This is what you discover thanks to this workshop around the vacoa.
Vacoa braiding workshop!
It is this traditional know-how that you will discover thanks to the association “Autour du Vacoa”. The members of the association are waiting for you impatiently to introduce you to the art of braiding and its different techniques.
During 3 hours for adults and 00 hour for children, you have the choice between a basket, placemat, straw-in-queue and small bag. They are already happy to welcome you and accompany you throughout this workshop of exchange, creation and weaving.
Directly in their premises at Saint-André, come quickly to learn more about this traditional Reunion craft and/or improve your skills, after your welcome coffee or tea. At the end of your workshop and to keep a perfect memory, you leave with the vacoa object that you have made.
