Our appointment is at No Bellecombe-Jacob. To begin, you receive some explanations about the surrounding landscape with your guide. Then it's time to contemplate the dantesque panorama of the Piton de la Fournaise. And finally, it's off for 1h30 on an easy hiking trail and 40 minutes on a fairly easy "off-trail" track. For this beginning of the day, you approach our magnificent volcano and feel more and more its presence and the power of the elements.

In this purely mineral setting, you cross huge mazes of roped lava and large gratton flows. The stunted and diffused vegetation here reminds us how difficult this environment is for life to flourish. Surprise ! Now the Earth is opening up. It is a lava tunnel that is offered to you. Your "caving" lighting pierces the darkness and, with each step, the underground landscape is revealed. Moreover, during this day, it is not one but two lava tunnels that you will discover! Two great opportunities to probe our volcano and explore the unsuspected wonders that we have under our feet. In short, it's 3 hours of underground exploration, quite easy, and in complete safety.
This excursion into the lava tunnels is accessible from 8 years old. Not to mention that it is supervised by a professional guide with a state diploma in caving. It must be said that Julien DEZ is a mountain guide, specialized in volcanism, passionate and exciting. For the off-trail part and underground exploration, you are equipped from head to toe to avoid minor injuries. Access to the tunnels is secure, and you are introduced to rope travel techniques.
