La Maison Folio, built in the XNUMXth century in the heart of the old spa town of Hell-Bourg. A journey through time in Salazie

The Folio House in Salazie

This XNUMXth century house is nestled in the heart of the old spa town of Hell-Bourg in Salazia.

The villa and its garden have been listed in the Inventory of Historical Monuments of the Department since April 6, 1989. Superbly restored by the current owners who have taken particular care to renovate it identically and in the purest respect of the traditional architecture, the Maison Folio is one of the jewels of the village of Hell-Bourg.

An invitation to time travel

It invites us to travel back in time, to the time when the great Creole families of the island left the heat of the coast to recharge their batteries in the coolness of the heights.

Carefully maintained, the Folio House alone represents all the style and charm of the colonial era. The interior of the house is still furnished mainly with period furniture and has the architectural characteristics of bourgeois Creole huts: veranda, symmetry of rooms, Creole ceiling, floor and valance.

The garden of the Maison Folio in Salazie

The garden itself symbolizes the “Creole art of living” with its guétali, its fountain and its stone paths. Between the alleys and paths that criss-cross the garden, plants occupy all the space. Walking there takes you on a journey of exotic scents among perfume, aromatic and medicinal plants: geranium, vetiver, patchouli, turmeric, lemongrass, allspice, etc.
