The old thermal baths of Hell-Bourg

are among the essentials in the discovery of the small village classified among the "most beautiful villages of France".

Even more, it is thanks to them that Hell-Bourg has developped. Indeed, without the discovery of the sources, and the thermal establishment and the hospital which followed, the village would have remained anonymous and would never have had the level of equipment which it currently has.

The path that leads to the old thermal baths is now a (split) workshop of the Station Trail de Salazie, the only one in the Indian Ocean. But you can also go there to the rhythm of time, which seems to slow down in this haven of peace!

A little bit of history

Discovered in the 1830s by 3 hunters of brown goats, they structured the village as it developed. It was only following a landslide that occurred a century later, and which buried the springs, that thermal activity stopped. There are remains of the establishment, which can be visited.

The hospital was for a time transformed into a hotel. And as time continues its course, it is currently visible from the road leading to the old thermal baths. But there is no longer access to the buildings, for security reasons.
