The Navy of Saint-Benoît is part of the “rosary” of navies of the Reunion coast, especially present in the East and the South. It is also the starting point of the famous “Chemin de Fer Réunionnais”.

The Navy of Saint-Benoît

Give yourself a moment at the end of the world! This is the feeling that many people can experience when advancing on the point of rock that overlooks the sea at this level. The Navy is located on the East coast path. In addition to the view, it is the starting point for what you want: a walk, a brisk walk, a jog... this site is frequented by walkers to experience moments of tranquility.
There is also nothing to prevent you from resting quietly facing the sea and meditating to the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks in front of you. For the more romantic, it's the perfect place to remake the cult scene from “Titanic”!

A little bit of history

It is also a place filled with the rich history of Saint-Benoît and therefore of Reunion Island.
It is up to the Navy to St. Benedict that were shipped at the beginning of the 19th century, coffee, spices and various exotic foodstuffs for the metropolis. You have to locate the channel that goes down to the pebble beach and the pulley arms that allowed the descent and the ascent of the parcels... But it's still impressive to imagine the work of the sailors of the time.
There are still some vestiges of this time, which feed the charm of this place.

Today, it is a place of rest and break with everyday life. When we are facing the ocean, when we realize that the next land is Australia, we can take the measure of what surrounds us.

This Navy is one of the entry points of the East coast path. This one is more and more frequented by the inhabitants of the surroundings to disconnect. We see families walking, athletes running, children trying their bikes... And at the Marine de Saint-Benoît, we do not fail to take the small staircase that goes towards the sea, to cross under the trees, to pass the kiosks and move towards the barrier to take a deep breath of sea air! anti-depression moment guaranteed!
