Why does Reunion Island have as many, if not more, Marines than municipalities?

The sea route is often safer than land routes. And when we know a littleIndian Ocean, we realize that this is an understatement.

The Navy of Sainte-Rose

So we also have a Navy at Sainte-rose, in a wide bay (always), on a jagged coast.
The bottoms here are shallower and boat access is easier. Today, the site has become a real fishing port where canoes are protected by a jetty, probably the descendant of the famous quai de La Rose which gave its name to the town.

The vegetation, the blue of the sea (we can see the seabed in the port, that's telling you how pure the water is!) and the white of the fresh water which comes directly from the volcano by penstock to supply the of the Rivière de l'Est hydroelectric plant.

  • Ideal for having a good time by the sea.
  • Starting point of the coastal path (or fishermen's path.)
  • We eat well at the snack bar on the site.

A historical place

And then there are the canoes, the jagged shore, the old rusty cannons facing the sea, the famous Corbett monument (which bears witness to a battle in which the French managed to hold off the English, who abandoned the body of their captain on site), the anglers, the small restaurant by the sea, and the tranquility... What a joy to experience a moment out of time!
