Eastern Reunion, exceptional landscapes… Reunion Island is so varied between the South of Reunion, the North of Reunion Island, the East or West of Reunion, that we ourselves are still surprised by the landscapes that yet we come across, on a daily basis.

Eastern Reunion - Forest of Bélouve at the plain of palm trees kiosk and vegetation

The East of Reunion linked to our travels and our memories

We have always surprised our colleagues or friends to draw parallels between what they saw and other places in France or around the world that they have already visited.
It is therefore naturally that we have decided to introduce you to places that you may know. And to describe to you what other place in the world they make us think of.
It is all the same important to specify that we do not necessarily have the same perceptions and we do not have the same memories either. Therefore, we present landscapes of the East of Reunion linked to our travels and our memories.

Plane tree - Route des Plaines

Autumn in the East

For example, I was in the direction of La Plain of the Palmists. When, the road just changed color!!! green and blue turned into yellow and blue. This landscape made me think back to my childhood, when I went to Nièvre with my parents. The kissing trees, the fall, I was delighted to relive that.An information in passing, it is the only place on the island where autumn is noticeable.

Belouve Forest

I've never been to the Amazon, nor have I ever visited "Middle-earth" in Lord of the Rings, but the Belouve Forest always reminds me of it.
To each his own references, and perhaps for you, the forest of Bélouve evokes something else. We would like to have your opinion on this point and even perhaps photos that you could send us and even that we could publish them, what do you think?

The River of Rocks

When I go as a family to Bras-Panon, we like to go to the banks of the Rivière des Roches. On the one hand there is a large, well-maintained course, and on the other hand there are nice viewpoints, as in the photos below. On a walk, on a picnic or even for a sporting moment, it's very pleasant to be there.
The pebble beach reminds me a lot of the great beaches of North America, more towards Canada in the summer. It's also a travel memory that reminds me of that. In some ways, I even found one of the photos reminiscent of a rice field in Vietnam.

Tamil Temples

Saint-André has long been known for its various Tamil temples as well as its ceremonies. It is not uncommon to be surprised at a bend in a street by a multicolored cart accompanied by the faithful. I have never been to India, but I have seen many reports and I can well imagine this festival of colors and this intense religious effervescence.
So, in my opinion, Saint-André, in many ways, reminds me of India.

To visit the Temple of the Colossus, it's here!
And for the Temple Maryen Péroumal, over here!

Cayenne Sainte-Rose

Sainte-rose

I recently wandered around Sainte-rose, there would be a lot to say. 3 places particularly caught my attention. Mostly Cayenne, I thought I was on the edge of a rough cliff in Brittany. The waves crashing on the steep rocks is really typical there. The hardest part was choosing the photos to present to you…

To discover the coast of Sainte-Rose, go for a walk on the fishermen's path. More info by clicking here!

Guava tree

Every year, during the guava season (April to July), I can't wait to know when I'm going to pick them and everything that follows... Just eat them, make jams, cakes etc from start to finish these are just good times, I just went to pick guava trees last week, it reminded me of my adolescence when I harvested in Provence with my cousins. We find the same atmosphere there, it's not exactly the same of course, but these are my memories of youth.

Meet at the table d'hôte Au coeur de la Cascade Biberon for lunch to the rhythm of the guava tree. Juice, guava coq au vin, jelly… More info by clicking here!

Provanille Cooperative in Bras-Panon

La Vanilla

Besides the fact that I appreciate it every day, whether in my yoghurts, in my ice cream and even in a good Vanilla Duck (see Mrs. Anibal in Bras-Panon), I recently learned that thevanilla was discovered in the XNUMXth century in South America. Well obviously I have no memory with the Aztecs concerning vanilla (in fact, I have no memory at all with the Aztecs!). But I really wanted to point out that we have a great heritage through vanilla.
In the East, a few service providers cultivate it, in Saint-André, Bras-Panon and Sainte-Rose. But above all the Reunion Vanilla Cooperative is located in Bras-Panon.

To learn more, go for a day of visits and meals around vanilla. More info by clicking here!

The Mosque of Saint Benedict

I'm not a Muslim, but quite curious about what surrounds me. Whether it's the Tamil temples, the churches, the pagodas… I like going to see how things are going and how the different atmospheres are. I haven't visited other Mosques, so I don't have a reference. I had a soothing feeling as soon as I walked through the big door. What also struck me was the intelligence and subtlety of the architecture. The colors are soft, sober and soothing. Clearly, I advise you to visit it, moreover, you will be well received.

The Pandanaie at the Plaine des Palmistes

Pandanaia

Then pandanaia, it is at the Plain of the Palmists. To tell the truth, I didn't think of other places from my childhood or that I could visit. But it is still unique in the world.
There are no other places where you can find this plant, it's crazy! I thought that was worth pointing out. You can discover the Pandanaie at the entrance to La Plaine at the flower pyramid.

Ilet Coco in Saint-Benoît

Ilet Coco, you know? It's just after Bras Canot, the land of litchis! What is terrible is that it is 10 minutes from the city center. But in the event of a flood, when the riffles are submerged, you have to wait between 3 and 4 days to access “Civilization”. I put it in quotation marks because, personally, I would prefer to stay in this small isolated village where everyone knows each other and where solidarity still means something. The photo shows it to you, but the idea is the small villages of Amazonia where you can reach by 4×4 and where you live off the fruits of the earth and the river. Do you agree with me ?

It is also and only at Ilet Coco that you can practice rafting in Reunion:

The navy of Sainte-Rose

The Navy of Sainte-Rose

So Sainte-Rose is my own Proust madeleine! My family comes from there, and all the stories from my grandmother or my uncles and aunts, well, it's Sainte-Rose! But Marine, it's more than that ! First, the port and the fishing boats anchored in water so clear that you can see the detail of the seabed. The blue is dazzling!

Then, the small restaurant placed at the limit of the volcanic rocks on which the waves come crashing. The curries and sandwiches are excellent. But the view, exceptional! And then the Corbett monument in volcanic stones. Oh those English! and finally the huge freshwater waterfall that lands in the harbour. When you know that it comes directly from the top of the Rivière de L'Est! It's up to me, but don't you think it looks like a Greek port?

Hell-burg

Hell-burg is ranked among the most beautiful villages in France! We are not proud of it! Especially since it is the only one from overseas France. So here, there are no freestone houses that have stood for centuries. But superb Creole architectural jewels in wood under sheet metal that compete in color and originality. They all look fragile but turn out to be very solid. You really have to take the time to park the car and walk through the small streets to admire the facades and try to imagine the life behind it. That's exactly what I would do if, one day, I had the chance to stroll through the village of "Cinque Terre", in Italy. You want to try ?

We offer you a guided tour of the village thanks to the Circuit des cases créoles. More info by clicking here!

Piton de la fournaise and the Fouqué enclosure

Volcano

Our volcano,e Piton de la Fournaise, is one of the most active in the world. This means that it often erupts and offers us varied landscapes. We won't be very original by reminding you how much it resembles that of.. . The advantage is that we have all the possible facets: roped or gratton lava flows, volcanic cliffs which fall brutally into the sea, long black or green sand beaches, the Plain of Sands, the top in a shield… Come on, for this one, it's up to you to tell us what it makes you think of! your keyboards !

Nothing like a guided hike to better immerse yourself in a place. More info on this hike in La Plaine-des-Sables by clicking here!
